Wax and paint sealant are protective layers applied over clean paint. Wax gives a warm, deep gloss; modern polymer sealants last longer between applications. Either way the job is the same: the protective layer takes the UV, rain, salt air, and road grime so your clear coat doesn't. We apply it by hand or machine and buff it to a clear, even finish.
Unprotected clear coat in South Florida oxidizes noticeably within a couple of years: color fades, gloss dies, and eventually the clear coat fails and peels, which is a repaint. A wax or sealant layer renewed a few times a year is the difference. It also makes every wash afterward easier because dirt and bugs release from a slick surface instead of bonding to bare paint.
If water no longer beads on your hood, protection is gone and it's time. As a rule of thumb: wax every two to three months, or a quality sealant two or three times a year. Always wax after any polishing work, and before summer if you park outside.
